I feel it’s necessary to address the misinformation that has been circulating regarding the recent Republican caucus and my nomination to run for Pomfret’s Board of Education.
First and foremost, no individual holds the authority to grant a nomination for any elected position in town. Nominations are determined by a vote at the caucus—period. Prior to me expressing my interest in running, an unaffiliated individual approached our Republican Town Committee (PRTC) chairperson seeking an endorsement for one of our two available nominations. While the chairperson expressed an intent to recommend her, he clearly stated that this would still require discussion and approval from the full committee. That detail was conveniently omitted in subsequent communications and reporting.
I was unaware of this situation when I later shared my sincere interest in serving. At that time, I also learned that the Democratic First Selectman had previously recommended this individual to fill a vacancy left by a long-standing Republican Board member. Despite claiming to be unaffiliated, she works closely with the Pomfret Democratic Town Committee. It raises the question—why is she seeking a Republican nomination instead of the endorsement of those she aligns with politically?
At our official caucus, I earned the nomination fairly and in accordance with the rules. However, a complaint was filed afterward—without my knowledge—resulting in a formal hearing held while I was out of state. The outcome confirmed the validity of my nomination. The vote was unanimous, with a panel of 5 people hearing the complaint from all across the state and voting in my favor. Unfortunately, false narratives have continued to circulate, portraying some as victims and omitting key facts to mislead the public. Transparency requires honesty—not selective storytelling.
Following the caucus, I reached out to this individual in good faith, offering to meet, collaborate, and move forward positively. She has every right to pursue a place on the ballot through her own chosen path as an unaffiliated candidate. My outreach went unanswered. I found this silence disappointing, especially after she had friend requested me directly following my post regarding our town's budget vote not requiring any sort of identification, and lacking integrity. A post that she liked. I made a sincere effort to build a bridge, believing that as parents of children in our schools, we might share common ground. I was very complimentary as we have mutual friends who speak highly of her and her intentions.
It has become clear that some have chosen political gamesmanship over integrity. Efforts were made to overturn a fair vote and discredit my candidacy—all without engaging me directly or transparently. That speaks volumes. I will not be discouraged. This experience has only deepened my commitment to serve with transparency, integrity, and a genuine focus on our children and schools.
Our community deserves better—and I intend to be part of the solution.
Here's what leaving out the facts looks like with a one-view slander paper in town. What happened to the good old days when we shared positive stories, community events, and photos of our kids in the paper? Now it's a liberal owned disappointment used to manipulate the average citizen into believing something that simply is not the whole truth... BE BETTER.
