Learn About the Board of Ed & Why I'm Running

What is The Board of Education?

The Connecticut Board of Education exists to put students first—making sure every child has access to the tools, teachers, and resources they need for a top-quality education.

The Board of Education is responsible for making sure every student in our state has access to a quality education. It sets standards for schools, oversees policies, manages resources, and works to create equal opportunities for all students, no matter where they live or what challenges they face. Simply put, the Board exists to keep education fair, strong, and focused on helping every child succeed.

What Does the Board of Education Do?

The Board of Education plays a critical role in shaping the future of our schools and students. Its main responsibilities include:

Setting Education Standards: Establishes curriculum frameworks, testing requirements, and graduation standards to ensure consistency and quality across all schools.

Oversight and Accountability: Monitors school district performance and ensures compliance with state and federal education laws.

Budget and Funding: Helps allocate resources fairly so all districts can provide quality education, regardless of their size or location.

Teacher and Administration Certification:  Sets requirements for educators and provides oversight for professional development and licensure.

Program Approval: Reviews and approves academic programs, special education services, charter schools, and magnet schools.

Equity and Inclusion: Works to close achievement gaps, provide equal opportunities for all students, and create a safe, supportive learning environment.

Why This Matters to You:

A strong Board of Education impacts every student, teacher, and family in Connecticut. The decisions made at this level affect class sizes, curriculum, resources, and opportunities for every child. That’s why I believe in transparency, inclusion, fiscal responsibility, and community involvement—so that every voice is heard and every student has the chance to succeed.
