Deleted Comments, One-Sided Ads: Inside Pomfret’s Solar Push
Today, I am going to walk you through a timeline of events surrounding Pomfret's rushed solar array project. Something isn't adding up. Listen for yourself:
Here are the March & June commercial presentations the town has been given. Keep in mind that neither of these is a substitute for an RFP and a lease agreement. There has been no supporting documentation to back up the estimates or revenue given by one of the "largest solar companies" in the state.
Equally disturbing are the posts made by the town to promote this ONE proposal they've obtained:
Our town, which pays a social media specialist, has been filtering, deleting, and banning comments on this topic now, after refusing to answer relevant questions on our official Pomfret government Facebook page:

Another thing that deeply troubles me, Selectmen Martha Emilio asked at the Board of Selectmen meeting on Tuesday, April 21st if there were any updates on the solar array project after the March 25th Special Town Meeting and was told by our First Selectman that "there has been no activity regarding the solar array" despite us now finding out that the First Selectman secretly had a site visit with the company now proposing this project on April 15th just 6 days prior. Why does she continue to leave Martha, an elected representative of our town, out in the dark on details, even when asked point-blank?
Is this the real reason that they got rid of "General Discussion" on the Board of Selectmen agendas at the very next meeting after over a decade of having that on there?
Residents are being asked to make a 20-year decision on incomplete information, inconsistent statements, and heavily curated marketing messages.
If this project is truly good for Pomfret’s citizens, it should be able to withstand real competition, full disclosure, and honest debate.
Until we see the actual RFP, the full lease, and independent verification of the revenue claims, residents should not be rushed into a 20-year commitment.
On June 25, come out to the special town meeting and vote no on this project, not because you’re against solar, but because you’re FOR transparent government, competitive bidding, and honest numbers. Demand answers. Demand Documents. Demand that someone actually look out for Pomfret residents first.
