You Don’t Fix Failure by Repeating It

If you’re on the fence this election season about who to vote for on the Board of Education, I urge you to take a step back and really think about what’s been happening — and who’s been leading.

Over the past few years, major mistakes have been made that reveal a troubling pattern:

  • A lack of financial responsibility

  • A lack of compassion

  • A lack of accountability when it comes to bullying and the reporting of those incidents

  • A lack of growth in enrichment opportunities post-COVID

It’s easy for people to say they care. It’s easy to promise that they’ll show up. But ask yourself — have they actually shown up?

How many PTO meetings or school events have you seen them attend?

Have they volunteered on field trips, coached our kids, or read in the classrooms?

Have they helped fundraise for the programs that make a real difference?

Before this election season, could you even name all four of the board members seeking reelection?

And more importantly — have you heard what they plan to do differently over the next four years?

Have they ever admitted to their mistakes or taken responsibility for them?

Leadership Is About Action, Not Talk

I’ve never been someone who says one thing and does another. I show up. I follow through. I do the work — every single day.

I strive to be better in every area of my life, and I treat people with kindness and respect — even when they try to disrespect or discredit me.

Being direct is not being hostile.

Real leaders are direct.

They are transparent.

They face challenges head-on and don’t shy away from tough conversations.

Lately, I’ve seen some people seeking reelection take to social media and accuse others of being “hostile” simply for asking tough questions. But let’s be honest — some of their very own friends, family members, and supporters have been the ones launching personal attacks on Facebook.

That’s not leadership.

Leaders don’t hide. They don’t deflect. They don’t try to silence others.

They engage. They listen. They grow.

Leaders don’t dig through personal Facebook posts looking for dirt or orchestrate phony letters to the editor to discredit others. True leaders build people up, they follow the law, and they challenge systems to make them better — for everyone, not just for those who agree with them.

It’s Time for Fresh Leadership

How many chances are you going to give the same people to “get it right” when their record already shows what they’re capable of?

Why are some so eager to hold onto their positions year after year — even when they no longer have children in our schools?

At what point is it time to say, “Enough”?

It’s time for fresh ideas.

It’s time for new energy.

It’s time for leaders with proven track records of showing up, giving back, and staying engaged — not just when it’s convenient or politically necessary.

Our schools deserve leaders who are invested from day one, who empathize with parents, and who respect and support our teachers.

That’s who I am.

I show up.

I care deeply.

And I will always put our students, families, and community first.

Because when it comes to doing what’s right for our schools — no number of wrongs will ever make a right.
